Service Technician

JOB SCOPE

Century Elevators is a full service provider of rack and pinion elevator equipment including industrial elevators, construction elevators, transport platforms and material lifts. We stock a full range of replacement parts and offer service and maintenance contracts. Our full service operation includes engineering services, field management, installation and immediate service for both permanent and temporary elevators, Transport Platforms and Material hoist. This is a highly skilled elevator technician position for service and maintenance repair work, to ensure the integrity and maintenance of rack and pinion elevator equipment and systems. Employee is responsible for performing complex troubleshooting of an electrical and mechanical nature, call backs and repair tasks.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs technical inspections and repairs of rack and pinion elevator equipment and systems to ensure conformity with maintenance standards, recommending adjustments as necessary to preserve equipment integrity or react to changing operating conditions.
  • Conducts thorough hands-on investigations and inquiries into equipment or system failures, and problem installations. Analyzes the effectiveness of preventive maintenance practices and suggests improvements in those practices.
  • Ensures technical requirements for redesigned equipment are properly documented. Coordinates with supervisors and provides field training for journeyman.
  • Works with engineering staff analyzing mechanical systems, electronic circuits, and peripherals used in Elevator Systems. Determines compatibility of parts procurement.
  • Evaluates circuit adaptability to various operating conditions. Evaluates electronic circuitry.
  • Assists certified inspectors in periodic field inspections on installed equipment to assure equipment is performing efficiently and to predetermined specifications.
  • Assists engineering staff by field testing proposed procedures, maintenance troubleshooting manuals, and inspection schedules for all equipment; and suggesting maintenance improvements in their technical definition to further reliability objectives.
  • Assists in providing effective technical assistance to and coordinating with training personnel on the development of instructional programs to assure that required skill levels are available to maintain elevator and escalator systems.
  • Prepares timely reports, as may be required, on general system or equipment problems, replacement parts and equipment performance standards.
  • Complies with established rules/regulations.
  • Maintains a clean work area.
  • Required to act as a Mentor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to identify and correct complex rack and pinion elevator problems. Employee expected to perform and complete tasks independently, quickly and accurately. Employee is proficient in and able to explain and demonstrate proper procedures to customer personnel.
  • Ability to troubleshooting down to component level and make necessary adjustments and repairs to all elevator equipment.
  • Ability to maintain understanding of current elevator codes and local Jurisdiction codes, trends, policies, procedures and techniques of the elevator trade.
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative and technical maintenance principles and practices applicable to rack and pinion elevators.
  • Ability to plan and lay out the installation, modification and repair of various and complex elevator systems and equipment, and to properly test completed installations with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to maintain state of the art technology equipment.
  • Ability to provide leadership to instruct and review work of lower level Technicians.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to deal courteously with customers, coworkers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, technical staff, and other employees.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • REQUIRES A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD.
  • Electrical and Mechanical principles as they apply to rack and pinion elevators and similar controls.
  • Min. 5 years practical experience.
  • Able to identify stages of construction when possible violations and defects may most easily be observed and corrected.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodation(s).
